Today is the kick off of the free weekend at South Dakota state parks and a weekend of free fishing.
Last year’s free weekend was a little soggy. Okay, friends of mine
were soaked to the bone at Orman.
A few waves of showers and thundershowers will move across us this afternoon through tonight. The first wave arrives early this afternoon with thunder rumbling from Hettinger to Beach, south to Ludlow and Spearfish by 1pm. The rain will be moving from southwest to northeast at a pretty good clip of 30 mph, so it shouldn’t take long to overrun all of us.
Along with brief squirts of heavy rain, some hail will be possible.
More waves of rain will move through as the afternoon and evening wears on.
Most of the showers should be over by 9am tomorrow although there may be some sprinkles until noon in and around McIntosh, Faith and Elgin. Wet weather will end at Bismarck by noon but continue at Mobridge through mid-afternoon. Some sunshine will poke out across Ludlow,
Newell and Dickinson by noon.
The next round of rain will arrive Wednesday and continue through Friday. The slow moving storm system will dump anywhere from an inch to three inches of rain across western South Dakota and western North Dakota.
